NCHI Roundup: Flanagan on top after three rounds

By Dave Weissman, Columbus Wired (7/24/10)

After 54-holes, Nick Flanagan is in the lead at the 2010 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational as OSU’s Scarlet Course at 7-under par.

With three birdies and only one blemish on his scorecard, Flanagan continued early with a solid round and vaulted to the lead after the 13th hole with three birdies.  He added a fourth birdie on No.15, but a double-bogey on No. 17 left him with only a one stroke lead.

He is ranked 16th in putting this week, which will be a key to victory at the Scarlet Course.

South Korean Won Joon Lee, ranked 95th on the money list, shot the low round of the day at 5-under par and is currently tied for second place at 6-under par with Alistair Presnell.  He seems to be headed the right direction after a 74 on Thursday, followed up with a 4-under on Friday.  But a bogey on No. 18, left him tied for 5th at 6-under par.  His best finish this year was tied for 10th at the Michael Hill New Zealand Open in January.

Presnell made a run towards the top with five birdies and two bogeys through twelve holes.  He then ran into a stretch of bad luck bogeying three of the next six holes, but did birdie No. 18, leaving him tied for second.

Keegan Bradley, Chris Nallen, Daniel Summerhays and yesterday’s leader Michael Putnam are two strokes back at 5-under par.

For the second day in a row, Putnam had a bogey on No. 9 and a birdie on No. 4.  But a double-bogey on No. 14 dropped him to 5-under par, four strokes off the lead.

Former NCHI winner four years ago as an amateur, Daniel Summerhays shot a 2-under par and is tied for fifth with a 5-under par.  This season, he made one cut in his first six starts on the Nationwide Tour. In his seventh start, at the Stadion Athens Classic, he posted his first top-10 finish, followed by another top-10 finish five weeks later at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic.
